MINUTES OF NIAGARA REGION GENERAL MEETING JANUARY 16, 2010
Our President Jim Sauder called the meeting to order. He began the meeting by stating the position of Secretary remained open and that Joyce Mackenzie-Grieve had expressed interest. Jim asked if anyone else was interested in the position. Verna Brydges motioned that Joyce be accepted as Secretary. Ric Harry confirmed the motion and John Cote seconded the motion.
Jim Sauder announced that Aubrey Cole passed away on Christmas Day. Aubrey was a former member and a very active member of Niagara Region HASC. He will be missed and remembered by many people.
Joyce Mackenzie-Grieve read the minutes of the November meeting. Jim Sauder asked the membership if there were any errors or omissions.
Jim announced the VP report was not available as Rob Sauder was not in attendance.
John Cote reported the deadline for the Klaxon report is January 27th. He has photos from the Christmas and awards dinner to publish and is working on his report.
Ric Harry advised there was no current news regarding Public Relations.
Iain Tugwell was not able to attend the National Meeting; George Ellis attended on behalf of the Niagara Region. George reported that Fred & Liz Elliott will be in charge of organizing Normoska again this year. It will be held at the same place as last year. The date will be towards the end of August this year as the facilities are not available in early August. More information will follow as plans are firmed up.
Marilyn Massi asked everyone who is interested in helping out with the flea market to please sign up early. She also announced that Bob & Joyce Mackenzie-Grieve have volunteered to Chair the flea market in 2011. Flyers for the 2010 flea market will be sent out in February.
Confirmations for tables already booked have been sent out. Marilyn is meeting with the arena folks the week of Jan 20th. More info will follow in February.
Carol Sauder reported that our next meeting is scheduled for February 20th. It will be a pot luck dinner and Dave Morningstar has been invited to speak about his experience constructing a canoe and his trip to Algonquin Park. His next project will be the construction of a kayak.
Carol Sauder announced February 28th as the date of our Pancake breakfast at White meadows. She also mentioned that she and Marilyn are looking for volunteers to do tours, particularly the Blossom Tour which is quickly approaching.
Carol announced that George Ellis made reservations for our Christmas party at Betty’s Restaurant on December 5th.
Bill Sauder reported our financial standing. He noted that there is a receipt missing in the amount of $10.72. The membership accepted the error and a receipt for cash expenses will be written to cover the discrepancy.
The balances of the accounts were read.
George motioned to pass the Treasurer’s report.
Mel Hicks seconded the motion.
All were in favour of accepting the motion.
Verna Brydges and Marilyn Massi volunteered to audit the 2009 books.
Jim Sauder announced the next Executive meeting will be held at 7pm on Feb 7th at the Massi residence.
Bill Sauder reported that we currently have 44 membership renewals.
There was no correspondence to report and no new business to discuss.
Jim Sauder brought up business arising from the minutes of the last meeting. After a brief discussion of events that took place following our November meeting, President Jim asked that the membership confirm their wishes that a donation be made in memory of Chris Elley. Willard motioned that a donation be made to Chris’ favorite charity “Sleeping Children Around The World”. Fifteen members voted in favour, zero against. Jim and Carol Sauder will arrange for the donation.
Jim asked if there was any old business. John Cote said that he researched the rental of a tent for our next outdoor corn roast. The rental is $200 per day and includes erecting and dismantling the tent. The tent will hold approximately 50 people without tables. John will contact two other companies for quotes.
Carol Sauder mentioned that we a volunteer to host the corn roast this year as her and Jim will be touring across Canada in their Model A. John Cote mentioned that a friend of his might be interested in hosting the event.
President Jim motioned to close the meeting. Ric Harry and George Ellis seconded the motion.
